The Old Wash House B&B

the friendly bed and breakfast

All meals are eaten in the breakfast room which is also available to you throughout your stay to use as a lounge and is furnished accordingly. It has a wood burning stove (if its lit it gets very hot, so please be careful, especially with your children), if the weather is a bit miserable it’s a very cosy place to sit and read a book.  There is a fridge and microwave available throughout your stay

Breakfast

Served from 7.00 till 8.45a.m. As with everything it will help if you can give us an idea of your anticipated breakfast time and menu choice and I can organise an earlier start if you require it.

There is a choice of cereals, yoghurts and fruits. This is complemented with freshly ground coffee, a choice of teas and herbal infusions, juices and either croissants or toast and preserves. A full English breakfast is served so please let me know what that means for you as each person seems to have a different understanding of the term. If you would prefer a continental breakfast I can offer a choice of cheeses and hams with hot rolls, toast and crispbreads.

Vegetarian, gluten free and dairy free options are available so please let me know if you have any special dietary requirements. Other options such as eggs benedict or pancakes and syrup are available if ordered in advance.

Eating Out

There is a good selection of restaurants, pubs and gastro pubs, an excellent fish and chip restaurant, various restaurants providing Indian or Chinese foods and a branch of Wetherspoons available within a 10 minute drive and as we are in a tourist area, if you are willing to travel a little further then the number of places to eat is enormous. We haven’t tried all of the places but if you want advice please ask. We are interested in your comments (good or bad) on places that you try so that we can pass them on to other guests. If you would like to order in a takeaway or bring  food in from one of the local supermarkets  you may eat in the breakfast room. Use the crockery and cutlery provided and leave the washing up to us!

We have no control over the quality of food or availability of a table at any of the restaurants in the book. There are one or two locally that we wouldn’t recommend, they aren’t in the book of menus, but we can only report on what we and previous guests felt about the local eating places when we last ate in them. Chefs and owners change and they all have good days and not so good!
